Haiku for the Desert in Spring
Poppies and lupine
may sprout from winter showers
remember and watch
Prickly pear paddles
droop grey along the roadsides
survivors destroyed
freeze has flung all leaves
mesquite tease, bare limbs shadeless
wait to see what lives
